Consumers Mistrust Flattery

Consumers are getting more savvy and more suspicious according to a study published in the Journal of Consumer Psychology.

Sales

The Eddie Haskell approach of flattery doesn’t appeal to consumers and is more likely to lose the sale than seal it. Consumers are wary of salespeople who compliment them and view it as an attempt at manipulation.

An experiment in sales and flattery found that consumers didn’t trust the admiring comments of the salesperson, even if they came after the sale was completed. The lesson to salespeople might be “less is more” when it comes to flattering the customer.

Job Satisfaction

According to a Harris interactive poll on Attitudes in the Workplace, employees of smaller companies found more job satisfaction than those working for larger companies.

The survey also showed that employees of smaller companies were less likely to feel their job demands interfered with personal and family needs.

Income was higher for employees of larger companies with 17% of employees earning $100,000 before taxes as opposed to only 5% of employees of small companies attaining that salary.

But income isn’t always the most important factor. Many workers cite home and family obligations, job stress and other considerations as being key to their employment decisions.

KFC Goes Galactic

Colonel Sanders is dead. Or is he?

KFC, the company Sanders founded and nutured to international success has just unveiled their new logo - an updated, revamped and 87,000 square foot image of Colonel Sanders face.

The company launched their new logo by building this giant, tiled image in the desert near Area 51 in Rachel, Nevada. Area 51 is the mysterious site, rumored to be a spot where aliens once did (and may still) land.

The image is large enough that it can be seen from space. Which makes me wonder…

Is KFC going for the intergalactic demographic, subtly leading all visitors to this planet to KFC for some finger-licking good chicken? Do aliens have fingers? Or is it that aliens, looking down upon the impressively large image of Colonel Sanders think that he is our leader, and in demanding to be taken to him, the aliens also buy a bucket of extra crispy?

How to Dress for an Interview

You’ve sent your resumé and applied for a job you really want to land. You want to make a good impression in your interview. What do you wear?

Some industries, such as manufacturing, don’t have strict fashion rules but the safest rule to follow is to be fairly conservative in your attire.

You want to create a good impression but avoid having your wild nail polish or multiple piercings be the focus of the interviewer. A conservative look will keep the attention where you want it: on your skills and qualifications.

Monster dot com has enlisted the help of Anna Soo Wildermuth, an image consultant, to point out 10 dressing faux pas you need to avoid when interviewing for a new job.
